The Tumor Profiler Center (TPC) is breaking new ground in cancer research and treatment. Over one hundred clinicians and researchers have joined forces to investigate the characteristics of malignant tumors in cancer patients at a cellular level. The aim is to comprehend the mechanisms of cancer development and predict which cancer treatment would be most promising for which patient. To this end, various scientific analytical methods – known as omics technologies – are combined to record the full scope of the genetic, biochemical and cellular changes and the response of tumor cells to cancer medication. The large volume of data collected is then analyzed bioinformatically through machine learning and artificial intelligence. The results are discussed in a "Molecular Tumor Board" composed of researchers and oncologists and turned into a suggestion for treatment tailored to the individual patient. The entire process takes place within a clinically-relevant period of two weeks so that patients can benefit from the treatment as quickly as possible.

The Tumor Profiler Center is a consortium of the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich and the University Hospital Basel.
